like i am a cigarette or neon lights or maybe
even a cat scratch. we could forget the roses bleating
beneath the streetlamp that doesn't flicker anymore
and i could be the victim
that i've always aspired to be and you,
you would never love me
even as new york screams that you do.
and oh, you really do.
diurnaldaisy petals feel different under the swash of sunlight creeping through the trees and i am quiet, quiet, quiet, because this is where nature goes about its daily routines without human interference, how the misplaced snap of a twig could startle a blessing of deer from the brush or rocket a cloud of quail through the morning. i don't want to hurt anyone, or scare anyone, or even see anyone. i just want to be lost in my memories of whispered laughters and fingers gushing over sweat laden knees.
i am heavy in this forest of silver and green and dark; the birds barely sing, and it is enough. my mind is piercing its way through the brambles, a lone wolf limping and hoping to find its pack by following the corvids into the night.
it's gruesome but easy: catch a rabbit, slash its belly, lap up its dreams. they're never lucky and its skeleton waits under the dimming glory of day.
here, i can lie and be honest all at the same time. blame the wetness on the dew and revel in the reality of shor

Emergency LandingHe caught her heart before it could crash to the ground and in exchange she showed him what it felt like to have someone promise they would never leave you, without him having to doubt if she really meant it.
Eyes That PierceShe stares at me with a look of unease, afraid of the words I may choose to release or choke back down my throat. I'm terrified of how this will change our relationship; alter our future down an unknown path where one wrong turn will surely lead to disaster. I frustrate her with my inability to open up and make myself vulnerable around her but the only thing I fear more than losing the chance to see her smile dance across her face again is the chance I may never make her smile again. Once someone has seen the most beautiful image to ever grace their existence, they begin to crave it and if it fades away, so does their hope of ever witnessing beauty again.
After how disastrous and wrenchingly painful my previous relationship wound up, I honestly believed I would never again be able to experience the way my stomach does somersaults when a girl touches my hand or brushes her lips against my forehead. I thought I was no longer capable of opening up my heart, even the slightest fraction, so

Stars Don't Need SwitchbladesA year's worth of poetry and
pop-science, cluttering my
corner of the cloud, of
cyberspace, of
ether. I found god in the
switch blade slices in ancient
LCD, glass, crystal and
electricity; slightly outside
the inner-city where
the half-assed poets live,
the gung-ho's, the
farmer's wives.
Where do you live?
I drink tea in a good corner
of a bad, getting worse, there's-
nothing-for-you-here town
(they sell crack in the convenient stores,
but the trees are nice, and the lawns are
mowed). The wind blows hanging flowers outside.
Sometimes I wonder where you live.
Is it far from here?
Maybe I could be your
closer-to-the-city-than-you-are counterpart.
You could teach me
physics and time travel.
Pop-culture and The Rolling Stone.
You could teach me to be a poet.
Sometimes I hear people whispering to me.
"If you're tired, get some sleep. Or get some caffeine."
Like them, I see obvious problems.
Blind faith, blind people,

down the inside of her leg, melted into
rain water and faded from pink to
sewage as it
ran through grates in the street and
into the pipes that ran
deep beneath
the city.
"that's what i hat PoisedIt's a trickling, difficult to channel,
Lapping at
The canals between brain tissues, teasing,
Nipping, flitting and
Paranoid like a hummingbird.
Either I am still and it sidles
Between my bones and runs
Down me and into the ground,
Or I grasp it
And break it, smallish bones crushed
Between poised fingers and a pen,
The blood trickling down,
Difficult to channel and flitting,
Becomes red poem upon my page.
